HomeKit has a longstanding bug whereby, if too many cameras are added at the same time (which can happen when setting up Starling Home Hub if you have a large number of Nest cameras), the cameras are unable to stream video in the Apple Home app with the following message shown:
This can also occur due to a HomeKit service bug on your Apple HomeKit hub (Apple TV or HomePod).
If this occurs, please follow these steps:
- Go to the Starling app, Nest Home and Product Settings, Enabled Nest Products and uncheck the entire Cameras and Doorbells section
- Go to the Apple Home app, and wait for the cameras to disappear from your HomeKit Home (this may take around 1 minute)
- Unplug power from all your Apple HomeKit hubs (Apple TVs / HomePods), wait a few moments, then plug power back in
- Go back to the Starling app, Nest Home and Product Settings, Enabled Nest Products, Cameras and Doorbells and enable 3 (or fewer) cameras
- Go back to the Apple Home app, and wait for the cameras you just enabled to appear (this may take around 1 minute)
- Repeat steps #3 and #4 until all the cameras are back in your HomeKit Home
What to do if you still have issues
If your cameras are still stuck in 'off' mode after following the procedure above, please contact Starling Support with a full description of the problem you are experiencing.
